DDPR001 Stimuli Analysis

Stimuli # 4 Moffat, T 1994, Scarred For Life

What design elements stand out to you?
Our brain tends to focus on negative moments, dark events that damage our innocence and bring us pain. These tiny but not trivial moments are the subject of some of Tracey Moffatt's artworks, especially her 1994 photo series 'Scarred for Life'. Some moments are with us, good and bad. Sometimes they are important moments that we know to be coming, prepare and record in our memory. However, the moments we remember are often small and without prior notice, leaving a watermark in our lives.

Is there a personal connection?
I think there is no much personal connection. When I first discovered Tracey Moffatt's artworks, I found myself a little anxious and uncomfortable. I am inclined to my emotions, as we should do when we look at art. Listening to our feelings allows us to explore art and ourselves more deeply. I noticed that all the photographs in 'Scarred for Life' have captions, although they do not necessarily explain the photos, they add layers to what we see.

Topic of exploration
The topic of exploration that I have chosen is social justice.

Art movement
The art movement that I have chosen is minimalism. Minimalism gives people a simple atmosphere, and give audience a  clear at a glance feelings. There will not be too complicated or unknown subjects combine together compare to dadaism.

Does this art movement connect with your stimuli in any way(s)? Share your ideas.
I think minimalism is simple and clear. It don’t give me a too complicated view, if not it will make it difficult for the audience to focus on the subject.
